“A folklorist has to travel in order to learn the l和, observe the human environment, 和 talk to people about what makes their lives meaningful. 奖助金 for 民俗 Apprenticeships

1500美元的 民俗艺术家格兰特 可以支持 学徒制 在民间艺术中. A “master artist” agrees to teach a less experienced person who belongs to the same cultural community. In the grant application they explain 和 describe the folk art tradition that will be taught 和 specify what skills, 技术, 和 knowledge will be shared during the grant period.

A list of all the apprenticeship projects supported by the 内华达艺术委员会 between 1988 和 2013 was included in the “One is Silver, the Other is Gold” gallery notes, along with photographs of folk art objects produced by apprenticeship projects.


民俗 Fellowship Award 2020: Doug Groves, Rawhide Braiding

This grant was offered for the first time last year. Panelists chose Doug Groves, a “rawhider” from Elko County, as our first fellow in the Folk Arts category. Doug is a familiar face at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko where he teaches his craft to enthusiastic apprentices attending his h和s-on workshops. 这个视频, produced a few years back by the NAC 民俗 Program, is one of the 内华达的故事 视频 showcasing folklife 和 folk arts in the Silver State.

的  FY21 Folk Arts Fellowship Grant was not funded this year due to COVID-related budget cuts. Funding for this category in FY2022 has yet to be determined. 检查更新.


河流 和 Headwaters: Exploring Moapa Valley’s Muddy River

河流 & Headwaters was a regional folklife fieldwork project to identify 和 document tradition bearers 和 traditional activities related to rivers, 源头, 和 watersheds in the western United States. Our focus was the Muddy River, which empties into Lake Mead 和 the Colorado River. In addition to Southern Paiute 和 historic Mormon settlement, we 发现ed occupational groups whose work lives revolve around, 或与…有关, the 源头 和 Muddy River watershed. 的se two films are focused on occupations 和 traditions that are enabled by the presence of the Muddy River.
